PWdWA Board Expression of Interest Nominations Form 2024

In accordance with the Rules of Association of People with Disabilities (WA) Inc. (PWdWA), Expressions of Interest are hereby called for election to the Board at the PWdWA 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM). The nominee must be a Full Member of PWdWA. Full membership of PWdWA is only available to people with a disability and is free of charge.

Conditions of Election

  • Only Full Members of PWdWA may nominate and vote at the AGM.
  • This nomination and election are subject to the Rules of Association of PWdWA.

About PWdWA

PWdWA is the leading member-based disability advocacy organisation in the state of Western Australia, that offers independent advocacy, general information, and resources to people who wish to self-advocate. As a registered charity, and backed by substantial state and federal funding, PWdWA has grown significantly over the last 40 years and has proudly supported thousands of people with disabilities in areas ranging from housing to National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) appeals and more.

The Role

As an elected member of the PWdWA Board you will be part of a dedicated team tasked with guiding and overseeing the organisation. We are inviting expressions of interest from individuals who would like to be part of the PWdWA Board. Our board members are valued for their lived experiences with disabilities and their willingness to align with the organisation’s member-based principles and identified skills matrix.

This role is an amazing opportunity for you to directly impact the lives of individuals with disabilities and champion PWdWA’s vision of an inclusive society that respects human rights.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participate in scheduled board meetings and thoroughly examine pertinent board materials.
  • Deliver concise updates and reports to board members, whether through verbal communication or written documentation.
  • Apply your extensive expertise in legal and ethical governance to offer valuable insights during board reviews of corporate affairs.
  • Actively participate in strategic discussions and cultivate a positive board culture that promotes constructive support.
  • Play a pivotal role in guiding the organisation towards a sustainable future by spearheading revenue raising initiatives and elevating the organisation’s external visibility.
  • A dedication to serve as a board member for a minimum of two years, with a preference for an extended commitment. The position involves an approximate monthly time commitment of three hours.

About You

You are someone who ideally has:

  • An unwavering commitment to advancing welfare and inclusivity within the disability community, further strengthened by your firsthand personal experience living with a disability.
  • A dedicated philanthropist, willing to leverage personal expertise and insights in contributing to the board’s mission.
  • Experience in leadership roles in the advocacy or non-profit sector, showcasing experience and expertise.
  • Demonstrates a strong grasp of governance principles specific to the nonprofit sector.
  • Experience in financial oversight and strategic risk management.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Exemplary leadership attributes and a proven track record in fostering collaborative decision-making.
  • Experience in advanced research and data analysis skills.
  • A commitment to addressing complex issues with compassion and patience.
  • Experience and knowledge of the legal regulations and frameworks that govern not-for-profit organisations.

General Information

  • The composition of the PWdWA Executive Committee, is defined by our organisational rules. This committee encompasses essential roles such as Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson in addition to a potential complement of at least seven additional members.
  • Only Full Members of PWdWA can be nominated, with endorsement from another Full Member.
  • Participation on the Board is compensated by an hourly payment while other reasonable costs may be reimbursed in accordance with the Rules of the Association.
  • Board meetings are typically scheduled every eight weeks, and nominees are expected to engage in special working groups that focus on systemic or operational matters.
