NRS down-time: The National Relay Service for people who are Deaf or have a hearing impairment or spoken communication difficulties will go offline tonight at 10pm Western Australian time.
The 24-hour national NRS service which facilitates people’s communication with standard communication users is expected to be back up again by 1am WST.
During the outage the emergency 106/TTY service will continue to be available.
This month advocates and Deaf Australia have raised concerns about limited services being available on the VRS platform, the operation of the nation’s Triple Zero emergency system, and the need for better technical platforms and communication tools.
The NRS previously went down in June 2025, prompting a greater focus on the importance of its up-time for people with disability.
